Good morning.
It's Tuesday, October twentieth.
Think back to when you woke up.
What was your very first thought?
Maybe it was "ugh."
Maybe it was "already?"
Maybe you grabbed your phone...
and a headline grabbed you back.
No judgment.
First thoughts are usually grumpy.
They show up before we're awake.
But they don't get to pick the day.
You still get a say.
Get comfortable.
Let your back rest against something.
We have six minutes.
Let's set the tone on purpose.
Five breaths now.
Fresh air in.
Stale air out.
Breathe in through your nose...
like opening a window.
And out through your mouth...
the stuffy air from the night.
Two.
In, cool and clean...
And out...
let it go all the way.
Three.
In...
Out...
maybe with a small sigh.
Four.
In, a little deeper...
And out...
Five.
Fill all the way up...
And let it go.
Notice your head.
Maybe it feels a bit more aired out.
Now find one worried You thought.
probably don't have to look Maybe far.
it's about "I'm work.
so behind.
I'll never catch up."
Or about you.
"I always mess this kind of thing up."
Pick one.
Say it in your head.
Just the way it sounds.
Now listen for the big words.
Always.
Those Never.
words are usually lying a little.
Ask the thought, gently...
is that completely true?
Have you really never caught up?
Not even once?
Probably you have.
Lots of times.
So let's write a new sentence.
One that's still honest.
Just a little kinder.
"I'm behind right now.
I can catch up.
One piece at a time."
Or...
"This is hard for me.
I've figured out hard things before."
Find your own version.
Take your time.
It should sound like you, well rested.
Honest, and a little hopeful.
Now say the new one.
Slowly.
Notice how it lands.
Maybe your shoulders loosen a bit.
Maybe your breath gets easier.
That's difference.
the Same situation.
Kinder words about it.
Positive thinking isn't pretending.
It's just not believing the worst draft.
Try these on.
See if they fit this morning.
I can choose a kinder thought.
My first thought isn't my final one.
Let your new sentence settle.
Like a note pinned by the door.
You don't have to repeat it.
Just leave it up there.
Notice how the body feels now.
Maybe a little lighter in the chest.
If the old thought creeps back...
that's normal.
Old thoughts know the way in.
Just set the new one next to it.
Let them sit there together.
Over time...
you'll start to believe the kinder one more.
Let the birdsong get a little louder.
Feel the room around you.
Stretch your arms out to the sides.
Open your hands wide.
One fresh breath in...
And out.
Here's your small thing for today.
Listen for one "always."
Or one "never."
In your head.
Or out loud, in a meeting.
When you catch it, pause.
Swap it for a truer sentence.
Just once is plenty.
You'll get quicker at it.
Like any habit.
Open your eyes when you're ready.
Have a good Tuesday.
