It's still dark out.
It's cold.
And the bed is very, very warm.
I know.
If you've already hit snooze once or twice, no judgement.
You're here now, and that's the bit that matters.
You're allowed to find this hard.
Winter mornings are hard.
Your body is built to sleep when it's dark, and here we are asking
it to do the opposite.
So you don't have to leap up yet.
Stay under the covers for these six minutes.
We'll get you up gently.
Close your eyes, or leave them half open.
Whatever feels less like a fight.
Let's warm you up from the inside.
Start with a slow breath in through your nose...
And breathe out through your mouth, soft and warm, like you're fogging up a
cold window.
Again.
In through the nose, a bit deeper...
And that warm out through the mouth.
One more.
Fill up...
And out.
Feel the warmth in your throat and chest.
Now bring your hands together and rub your palms, quick and firm, for a
few seconds.
Get some heat going.
Then cup your warm hands over your eyes.
Feel that heat soak into your face.
Stay here for a breath.
Let your hands fall.
Wiggle your toes under the blanket.
Point them, then flex them.
That's your circulation waking up.
Now, one question.
Why does today matter?
Just one reason.
It doesn't have to be big.
Maybe someone's counting on you.
A kid who needs breakfast, or a colleague who's quietly glad when you show
up.
Maybe there's something you've been working toward, and today is one more step on
it.
Or maybe it's small.
That first coffee.
A walk at lunch while it's light.
Honestly, small reasons still count.
Some mornings they're the only ones that work.
Let one land.
When you've got it, hold it in your mind like a little light in
the dark room.
If your mind drifted back toward sleep while you thought about it, that's fine.
Mornings are slow in there.
Just come back to your reason.
Now let's pick your first win.
Something tiny you'll do the moment you're up.
Making the bed is a good one.
It takes about a minute, and then you've already finished something before the day
has properly started.
Or starting the coffee.
Choose one, and keep it simple enough that there's no way to talk yourself
out of it.
Picture yourself doing it.
The floor is cold under your feet for a second.
See your hands pulling the covers straight and giving the pillow a quick shake.
Then the kitchen.
The light comes on.
You start the coffee and hear it begin to gurgle.
Steam, and a warm mug in both hands.
One small win makes the next thing a bit easier.
That's usually how momentum starts.
Rest for one more moment, still warm.
You know your reason, and you know your first win.
Outside, even if you can't see it yet, the sky is starting to turn.
A little gray at the edges first.
It's coming whether you're ready or not, so you might as well meet it.
You don't have to feel bright yet to get up.
The shine usually shows up a little later, once you're moving.
Okay.
Here we go.
Take a big breath in, and stretch your arms up over your head.
Breathe out,
and throw the covers back.
Yes, it's cold.
That's okay.
Swing your legs round and put your feet on the floor.
Both of them.
Right now.
Stand up.
Grab a sweater if you need one.
Then go get your first win.
The coffee's waiting for you.
