Good morning.
It's Wednesday, October twenty-eighth.
Let's loosen up a little first.
Spread your fingers wide.
Wider.
Now let them curl back in.
Slowly.
Like you're holding a ripe peach.
Do it once more.
Open wide...
and curl.
Roll your wrists.
Let your hands flop around a bit.
Nobody's watching.
Ideas don't like a tight body.
So let your jaw go loose too.
Midweek brains get a little stiff.
Same commute.
Same turkey sandwich at Today's noon.
a good day to shake We it up.
have six Let's minutes.
make some room up there.
No counting today.
Just let the breath move like a wave.
Breathe in...
and feel it roll up the shore.
And out...
sliding
sea.
In...
the wave rising.
back into the And out...
pulling back, leaving foam on the sand.
Let it find its own rhythm.
Some waves are bigger.
Some are small.
In...
And out...
There's no right way to do this.
Just let it roll.
Now picture a huge, blank sky.
Pale, empty morning sky.
No clouds.
And you have a brush.
A really big one.
As big as a house.
Dip it in any color you like.
Don't think too hard.
Whatever shows up first.
Maybe it's orange.
Like a pumpkin on a porch step.
Sweep it across the sky.
One long, lazy stroke.
Now pick another color.
Something that surprises you.
Bubblegum pink, maybe.
Or a blue so dark it's almost night.
Swirl it in.
Let the colors run into each other.
Now step back.
Look at what you made.
Do you see any shapes?
Maybe a bird.
Maybe a face in the swirl.
Maybe it just looks like a mess.
That's great too.
Messes are where ideas hide.
Add one more thing.
Anything.
A tiny moon.
A sailboat.
A giraffe.
It doesn't have to make sense.
The sky doesn't mind.
Notice how that felt.
Nobody grading it.
Nobody asking what it's for.
That's the part of you that creates.
It's been here since you were a kid.
With crayons all over the floor.
It didn't go anywhere.
It just got a little quiet.
Say these quietly to yourself.
I have ideas worth listening to.
I'm allowed to play.
Rest here in the open sky.
Colors still drifting.
Let your mind wander wherever it wants.
That's allowed right now.
Listen to the chimes.
The wind never plays the same tune twice.
If a random thought pops in...
an old song, or a weird question...
let it float around.
Follow it for a bit, if you like.
See where it That's goes.
how ideas usually show up.
Sideways.
When you're not looking.
Let the sky fade out.
Feel the room around you.
Stretch your arms up.
Open your hands wide one more time.
One fresh breath in...
And out.
Here's your small thing for today.
Jot down one idea.
In your phone's notes.
Or on the back of a receipt.
It can be silly.
A name for a band you'll never start.
A new way to fold the towels.
Don't judge it.
Just let it exist somewhere outside your head.
Most good ideas started out Somebody silly.
just wrote them down anyway.
Open your eyes when you're ready.
Have a curious Wednesday.
