Good morning.
It's Thursday, October first.
A new month.
The calendar on the fridge...
probably still says September.
Someone has to flip it.
Today, that can be you.
Sit up a little.
In bed, or at the kitchen table.
Wherever you are is fine.
The coffee can keep dripping.
It doesn't need you yet.
We have six minutes.
Enough to start this month on purpose.
Think about last month for a second.
Not all of it.
Just what you're still carrying.
The thing you meant to finish.
The talk that went sideways.
The one you still replay sometimes.
You don't have to fix it now.
Just set it down.
Like a heavy bag by the door.
Breathe in through your nose.
Slow and full.
And out through your mouth.
Long and slow.
That was September's to-do list.
Let it go with the air.
In again...
from the belly.
And out...
even longer this time.
One more.
And In...
out...
all the way Maybe down.
you feel a little Maybe lighter.
only a little.
That counts.
Now picture a door.
An ordinary door.
The kind you walk through every day.
It's open just a crack.
Light is coming through the gap.
Cool, clear, early fall light.
You can smell the air out there.
A little crisp.
Someone's coffee, down the street.
Put your hand on the door.
Smooth.
A little cold.
Maybe part of you hesitates.
That's normal.
New things feel strange at first.
Even the good ones.
You can bring the nerves along.
Open it at your own speed.
An inch.
Then a little more.
On the other side...
a whole month nobody has used yet.
Thirty-one days.
Nothing written on them.
No mistakes in there yet.
Just room.
When you're ready...
take one step through.
That's it.
You're in October now.
What's behind you...
stays behind the door.
Look around.
The sky is pale and wide.
The grass is still wet.
There's a path.
No one is timing you on it.
You don't need a big plan.
No color-coded spreadsheet.
Nobody expects a brand new you by Friday.
Least of all me.
A fresh start is a small choice.
Made today.
Then made again tomorrow.
Say this quietly to I yourself.
can begin again.
I don't have to get it One all right.
small thing today is plenty.
Just rest here for a bit.
On the new side of the door.
Listen to the birds.
They don't know it's a new month.
They just sing, like every morning.
That's sort If of the point.
your mind jumps ahead to the day...
that's Let fine.
it wander back here.
Let the newness sit with you.
It can stay a while.
Now let the door fade.
Feel the room around you again.
Press your feet into the floor.
Reach your arms up high.
As high as they'll go.
Maybe roll your neck.
Slowly, side to side.
Take one bright breath in...
And out.
Now pick one thing for today.
Keep it small.
A glass of water before the coffee.
Or texting back that friend.
Say it once in your mind.
Like you mean it.
That's your first choice of October.
Open your eyes when you're ready.
And go flip the calendar.
