Think of something you want.
It can be big or small.
We're going to go and visit it for a few minutes.
It might be a goal you've been circling for years, or something as simple
as a calm Sunday at home.
Whatever came up first is fine.
Get comfortable.
Lie back,
or sit with your back supported.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in slowly through your nose...
And let it out through your mouth.
Let your face go soft.
In again...
and feel your body getting a bit heavier in the seat.
And out...
letting your thoughts slow down.
One more.
And In...
out.
With each the breath, everyday stuff moves a little further back, and there's more
room for imagining.
Now let the picture start to Put form.
yourself somewhere inside the moment where this thing has already happened.
Where are you?
Indoors or outside?
Look around slowly.
What's the light like?
Morning light, maybe, or the gold of late afternoon.
Notice the colors.
The wall, the sky,
whatever you're wearing.
Now the sounds.
Is it quiet?
Are there voices, people you love nearby?
Maybe a kettle starting to whistle?
Is there a smell?
Coffee, maybe, or rain on a warm street.
Smell has a sneaky way of making things feel real fast.
And textures.
Reach out and touch something in the scene.
The edge of a table, or somebody's hand.
Feel what it's like under your fingers.
Notice who's there with you, if anyone.
Sometimes the person who shows up is a bit of a surprise.
If the picture is blurry, or keeps shifting, that's completely fine.
Some people see pictures, some just get a sense of things.
Your mind might wander off too.
Just come back and add one small detail.
Now notice how it feels to be here.
Having it.
Being this version of you.
Watch how this version of you moves.
How you talk, how you sit, what you don't worry anymore.
about Try that on for a moment.
Where does that feeling live in your body?
Maybe it's a warmth in your chest.
Or maybe you're just standing up straighter than usual.
It's okay if the feeling is quiet.
More like contentment than fireworks.
Quiet counts.
Find the spot where it's strongest, and rest your attention there.
Breathe into it.
Let it be real for a moment.
Now let's turn it up a little.
Imagine the whole scene getting brighter, like someone slowly opened the curtains.
Bring it closer.
Let it fill more of your view, until you're right in the middle of
it.
And let the feeling grow with it.
Wider in your chest, and warmer, spreading out your into arms and hands.
If it starts to feel too big, or a little scary, you can dial
it back.
charge You're in of the brightness here.
Stay here.
Nothing to do.
Just soak in it.
Keeping that feeling with you, let the picture soften and fade.
Now ask yourself one question.
What's one thing I could do today that matches this feeling?
Keep it small.
Send one email, or clear one corner of the desk.
Small is what actually gets done.
Got one?
Hold it for a breath.
Start coming back now.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Take a long stretch if you want.
Take a full breath in...
And let it go.
Then open your eyes, slowly.
The room might look a little ordinary after all that.
That's fine.
The ordinary room is where the one small thing happens.
You've seen it now,
and you know how it feels.
Come back and visit whenever you need a reminder of where you're going.
