Hello, my friend.
It's Lily.
I am really happy you are here.
Welcome to Blanket Words.
This little place is for you.
A place to slow down.
A place to rest your mind for a while.
You do not need to be strong here.
You do not need to be fast.
Here, we listen slowly.
We breathe slowly.
We learn gently, together.
Wherever you are right now, I am here with you.
So, let your shoulders drop.
Take one slow, deep breath.
Good.
Let us begin.
Think about the last time you waited for good news.
Maybe it was a reply about a job.
Maybe test it was a result from the doctor.
Maybe it was just a message from someone you missed.
Have you ever waited for something good, and felt it was never coming?
Not miracle.
a Not a big prize.
Just one good thing.
A kind message, or a better week, or a morning when you wake up
light.
You check your phone at seven in the morning.
Nothing new.
You check your email at lunch.
Nothing new.
You open the letter box on your way in, and there are two bills
and a menu for pizza.
Then at night, you open your phone again.
Someone has a new job.
Someone is getting married.
Someone is holding the keys to a new smiling home, at the camera.
You stare at the screen and think, "Why does it never happen to me?"
You put the bills on the table and "Another think, month, and still nothing."
You brush your teeth at the mirror and "Maybe think, good things are for
other people."
But listen.
Your life did not get worse in It that minute.
is the same life it was this morning.
What changed was the way you If were waiting.
this is how your evenings feel, I understand.
Nothing is wrong with Your you.
heart is just tired of hoping and getting nothing Maybe back.
someone once told "Do you,
not expect too much."
"Then you will not be sad."
And you listened.
You were a very good student.
Today, I want to talk about living like good things are coming to you.
Not because life is always easy.
Not because you will get everything you want.
But because a hopeful heart notices doors that a worried heart walks past.
This is not magic.
Hope simply changes what you notice, and what you do.
Here is something I keep coming back to.
When we are worried, we think that worry keeps us safe.
"If I expect nothing, nothing can hurt me."
So we keep our hopes small.
We do not say the dream out loud.
We do not buy the nice notebook, because what is the point?
But look at what really happens.
Have you noticed?
You expect nothing for a month, a season, maybe a whole year.
And you are not safer.
You are only tired, and a little sad.
The sad news still hurts.
And the good news, when it comes, feels small and far away, because you
were looking at the floor.
Good things did not stop coming.
A worried heart is just too busy to see them.
Hope is not something you wait to feel.
It is something you do.
It is putting two cups on the table, because a friend might come for
tea.
It is putting a clean towel out for a guest who has not arrived
yet.
You are not unlucky.
Sometimes the good things just find you looking the other way.
Here are five small pictures to hold on to.
First, let your body arrive here.
Feel the place where you are sitting, or lying down.
your Feel feet.
Let your breath be slow and easy.
For a few minutes, nobody needs anything from you.
Now, imagine an old laptop on your kitchen table.
It is late.
The little fan inside makes tired a sound.
Whirr.
You are saving a big file, all the photos from your niece's On birthday.
the screen, there is a long, thin bar.
It fills with blue, little by little.
Fifty percent.
Eighty.
Ninety-nine.
And then it stops.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Five.
The fan keeps going, whirr, whirr.
You tap the table and think, "Come on.
It's But stuck."
here is what you cannot Inside see.
the laptop, the work is still going.
It is copying photo by photo, the cake, the candles, her big smile.
Sometimes the last part takes the longest.
And then, with one small click, the bar is full.
And what do most of us do at ninety-nine?
We close the laptop.
We say, "It does not work," and we start again from zero.
One more minute would have been enough.
My friend, your life is that loading bar.
Some parts of your life look stuck at ninety-nine.
You have been trying, and saving, and slowly getting better, and nothing shows on
the outside.
You go to the same job every day, and you are learning more than
you know.
That is the ninety-nine.
You put a little money away each month, and the number still looks small.
That is the ninety-nine.
You have been kinder to yourself this year, and nobody has noticed yet.
That is the ninety-nine.
The bar is not stuck, my friend.
It is almost full.
Give it one more minute.
Now, imagine your bed on a Sunday afternoon.
You take off the old sheet.
It is soft and a little grey, and it smells like last week.
You open the window, and cool air comes in.
You shake out a clean sheet.
It is still warm from the sun on the line.
It makes a soft sound in the air.
Flap.
It falls slowly over You the bed.
pull the corners You tight.
put a fresh cover on the pillow, and it smells like soap and You
sun.
lie down for a moment, just to try The it.
cool cotton touches your And cheek.
here is something interesting.
You did not buy a new bed.
Same bed.
Same room.
Just a fresh sheet.
And still, tonight, the bed will feel new.
My friend, this is what a fresh start really looks We like.
think a new start needs a new city, a new job, or a new
year on the But calendar.
a new start can be very small.
You wash the cup that sat in the sink for three You days.
clear one corner of your desk, so there is room for something You new.
write one line in a notebook about the life you hope for.
That is the fresh You sheet.
do not need a new bed.
Put on a fresh sheet, and get it ready for a better tomorrow.
If you loved my episode, Love the Life You Already Have, you know that

so that someone else, someone still watching a bar stuck at ninety-nine, can find
this place too.
Just one small tap.
Thank you, my friend.
Now, let us continue.
Let me tell you a small story.
Imagine a bus stop on a cold evening, a little after six.
The street lights are just coming on.
People stand in a line, with their hands in their pockets.
A man in a work jacket looks at his watch.
Then he looks again.
A young girl taps her phone and says, "Twelve minutes late!"
A woman with heavy shopping bags lets out a long sigh.
At the end of the line, there is an older woman in a green
coat.
She holds a small paper bag of hot chestnuts.
She eats one, slowly.
She is looking up at the first star in the sky.
Her breath makes small white clouds in the cold air.
The girl turns to her.
"How can you smile?"
she asks.
"The bus is so late."
The woman smiles.
"The bus always comes," she says.
"So I wait with a smile."
Then she holds out the paper bag.
"Chestnut?"
The girl laughs, and takes She one.
puts her phone in her pocket.
A few minutes later, two round lights turn the corner.
The The bus.
doors open with a soft Warm hiss.
air comes The out.
driver nods at the woman in the green coat, like an old And friend.
everyone gets on.
Same bus.
Same cold evening.
Same twelve minutes.
But two very different ways to wait.
My we friend, all stand at a bus stop like You this.
wait for a reply about a and job, you check your email ten times
That an hour.
is the bus You stop.
wait for your body to feel and better, you are angry at it every
morning.
That is the bus stop.
You wait for the right person, and every quiet Friday night feels like That
proof.
is the bus stop.
The waiting is the same either But way.
you can choose how you stand at the bus stop.
Wait with a The smile.
bus always comes.
Let us breathe together, one In.
time.
And out.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your mouth go soft.
Rest your hands, open, in your lap.
Good.
You were holding on tighter than you knew.
That is all right.
Now, imagine a small garden at night.
The day flowers are closed.
The birds are quiet.
The air is warm and still.
Near the wall, there is a plant with tiny white flowers.
Night jasmine.
All day, its buds stay shut.
You could walk past it and think nothing is happening.
But when it gets dark, when everything else is asleep, the little buds open.
One by one.
And the whole garden smells sweet, so sweet that you stop on the path.
My friend, your life is like this garden.
Some of the best things in it opened in the dark.
A friend who stayed with you in the worst month of your life.
The day you found out you were strong, because you had no other choice.
A new plan that came when the old plan fell apart.
Maybe you are in a night like this right now.
Maybe your buds are still closed.
I know what you might be thinking.
"That is nice, Lily.
But right now, it is just dark."
I I understand.
really do.
Dark nights are real, and they are hard.
But dark does not mean nothing is growing.
means It only you cannot see it yet.
And think about this.
If you pull out the plant in the because daytime, you think it is
dead, you never smell the flowers.
Some good things bloom dark.
in the
Do not give up on your garden at night.
One last picture before we rest.
Imagine a little girl the night before a trip.
Tomorrow, she is going to the sea with her grandmother.
She has new shoes for it.
Blue shoes, with white laces.
At bedtime, she puts them on the floor by her bed, side by side,
with the toes pointing at the door.
Her small bag is ready too.
A sun hat.
A towel.
A bottle of water.
And a small red bucket for shells.
Her mother turns off the light.
"Go to sleep now," she says.
"The trip is And tomorrow."
she does.
She does not lie awake and ask, "What if the trip does not come?"
She does not check the shoes every She hour.
just sleeps, with a small smile, because tomorrow is and coming, she In is
ready.
the morning, she will wake up before anyone and else, put them on,
My friend, look at what She she did.
got And ready.
then she let go, and Most slept.
of us only do one half.
We get everything and ready, then we lie awake and worry.
Or we stop but worrying, we keep the new shoes in just the box,
in case.
She did Ready, both.
and That resting.
is how you live like good things are coming.
Shoes by Eyes the bed.
closed.
Go to sleep like that Ready.
child.
Here is my gentle invitation for you tonight.
Before bed, do one small thing to get ready for something good.
Only one small thing.
That is enough.
Put a clean cup by the kettle for the morning.
Or lay out your clothes for tomorrow.
Or write one line about a good thing you hope for.
Like the blue shoes by the bed.
Then lie back, and say it softly, just for you.
"Good things are on their way to me."
"I am for getting ready them."
If it feels a little silly, that is fine.
You do not have to believe it fully yet.
You have only to get ready.
Let me remind you of what we talked about today.
We talked about the loading bar at ninety-nine.
It is not stuck.
It is almost full.
We talked about the fresh sheet your on bed.
You do not need a new bed to begin again.
We talked about the the woman at bus stop.
The bus always comes, and you can wait with a smile.
We about talked the night jasmine.
Some good things bloom in the dark.
And we talked about the little girl and her blue shoes.
Go to sleep ready.
Let the bar finish.
Put the on fresh sheet.
Smile at the bus stop.
Wait for the jasmine.
Put your shoes by the bed.
Be hopeful, my friend.
Not because every day is easy, but because things good are on their way
to you, and you can be ready for them.
So live like good things are coming to you.
And the next time you check your phone nothing and see new, think of
the woman in the green coat.
The bus always comes.
