Hi.
Today is Veterans Day.
A lot of people are saying thank you.
This is a thank you too.
For the ones at home.
The ones who wait.
So sit down, if you haven't yet.
Let the chair take your weight.
You carry plenty.
It can carry you.
Take one slow breath in...
And let it out.
For six minutes...
you don't have to hold it together.
Just sit, and breathe.
Someone you love is far away.
Maybe deployed.
Maybe on a long training rotation.
Or maybe they're home now...
but part of them still isn't.
And you've been holding the fort.
School drop-offs.
The car making that noise.
Bedtime, alone, again.
Let yourself name the worry.
Just quietly, inside.
Maybe it's the time zones.
Waiting on a call that might not come.
Keeping your phone on loud, all night.
Maybe it's the news.
You see a headline...
and your stomach drops before you read it.
Maybe it's the holidays coming.
Another Thanksgiving with an empty chair.
Explaining it to the kids again.
Notice where you feel it.
Your chest, maybe.
Or the back of your neck.
That's a lot of weight.
And most nobody days...
sees you carry it.
People say, you're so strong.
And you But are.
strong people get tired You're too.
allowed to miss them out loud.
You're allowed to be proud of them...
and still wish they were home.
Now let's try something gentle.
Bring your loved one to mind.
Bring up their face.
Not in uniform, if you'd Just rather.
them.
Laughing at the kitchen table.
Breathe in slowly.
Let your chest fill with warmth.
And as you breathe out...
send that warmth toward All them.
those miles.
It doesn't matter how Breathe many.
in again.
Feel the warmth gather.
And out...
let it go to them.
Wherever they are right now.
Now turn it Breathe around.
in the same warmth...
and keep it for yourself.
Let it settle in your own chest.
You deserve some of it too.
Breathe out slowly.
Once more.
Warmth out to them...
And warmth back in, for you.
That's the line between you.
It runs both ways.
Distance doesn't break it.
Now rest here.
In the steadiness you share.
Somewhere, they're breathing too.
Maybe it's night where they are.
Maybe they're thinking of you right now.
The wind moves outside your window.
The same sky is over both of you.
Whatever they're doing today...
they're doing it knowing you're here.
That matters more than you think.
You don't need to worry right now.
The worry will keep.
Let yourself rest.
Breathe in...
And out...
The kitchen table fades.
You're here, in your own chair.
Roll your shoulders back.
Feel your feet under you.
Breathe in...
And out.
Here's your next step.
This week, reach out to one other family...
who knows what this is like.
Another spouse from the unit.
A friend whose son is overseas.
Not a quick text.
A real talk.
Coffee, or a phone call.
Where you both say how it's actually going.
They probably need it as much as you.
And they won't need anything explained.
They already get it.
If you don't know anyone yet...
the family readiness group is a start.
And if it ever gets too heavy...
you can call 988.
Then press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line.
It's there for families too.
You've been holding a lot.
You don't have to hold it alone.
Go make that call this week.
