Stop.
Right where you are.
Put down whatever's in your hands.
The car keys, or the grocery list.
Even the phone with forty texts on it.
Now let out one long breath.
All the way out.
Like the sigh after a long day.
Good.
You just did something rare today.
You stopped.
Let's keep stopping.
For six minutes.
Hear that wind?
Moving the last leaves around.
Taking its time.
So it's the day before Thanksgiving.
And you've been running since you woke up.
Maybe you've been to the store twice.
And you still forgot the cranberries.
Maybe there's a pie in the oven.
A load of towels in the dryer.
And a guest room that's still an office.
Notice how fast you've been moving.
Walking fast.
Even chewing fast, standing at the counter.
Now notice your chest.
Is it tight?
Is your breath stuck up high?
Maybe your heart is still hurrying.
Even now, sitting here.
That's what rushing does.
It gets into your body.
It keeps going after you stop.
And the funny thing is...
rushing doesn't save much time.
You drop things.
You forget things.
You go back upstairs...
and can't remember why.
So let's try going slower on purpose.
Just to feel what it's like.
We'll breathe at half speed.
Twice as slow as feels normal.
Breathe in...
slowly...
slower than that.
And breathe out...
slowly...
let it take its time.
Again.
In...
like you're filling a big glass jar.
And out...
like pouring it back, very carefully.
One more.
In...
all the way to the top.
And out...
every last bit.
Notice your chest now.
Maybe a little looser.
A little more room in there.
Now picture the rest of today.
But at this speed.
See yourself walking to the car.
Not jogging.
Walking.
Feeling the cold air on your face.
See yourself in the kitchen.
Rolling out the dough.
Your hands moving slowly, and sure.
See yourself answering a text.
Then putting the phone down.
Instead of answering five more.
Everything still gets done.
Maybe not everything.
But the things that matter do.
And think about tomorrow.
What do you want people to see?
A host who's frazzled and short?
Or someone who can sit down.
Pass the rolls.
Actually hear what someone's saying.
Slowing down today...
is how you show up tomorrow.
Breathe in, slow...
And out, slower...
Now just rest.
You aren't late for anything right now.
Listen to the wind.
It gets where it's going.
It doesn't hurry.
Let your hands be still.
Let your feet be still.
Breathe in...
And out...
If your mind starts making lists...
let the list wait a bit.
It'll keep.
Nothing's burning.
Well...
check the pie in a bit.
But not yet.
Right now there's just this chair.
And a breath that isn't in a hurry.
Okay.
Let's get back to your day.
Slowly.
Roll your shoulders back.
Stretch your neck side to side.
One slow breath in...
And out.
Here's your next step.
Grab a pen.
Write down three things.
Only the ones that truly need doing.
Today.
Not someday.
Maybe it's the pie.
Maybe it's making up the guest bed.
Maybe it's picking up your brother.
Everything else can slide.
Or not happen at all.
Nobody at the table will notice.
Do those three at half speed.
Go write them down now.
