Let's start with what's right here.
Under you.
Around you.
Feel the bed.
It's been waiting for you all day.
It doesn't ask for anything.
Feel the pillow under your head.
Soft enough.
Just the right height, or close to it.
Feel the blanket.
The weight of it across your legs.
The way it holds the warmth in.
There's a roof over you.
Rain or no rain, you're dry.
Maybe a glass of water on the nightstand.
Clean water, whenever you want it.
You ate today.
Maybe nothing fancy.
Leftovers, or a sandwich at your desk.
But Somewhere, you ate.
someone knows your name...
and is glad you're in Even the world.
if they didn't say so today.
For the next six minutes...
let's fall asleep counting this.
What's already here.
Breathe in slowly...
And let it out.
If money has been on your mind...
you're not the only one.
Maybe you checked your account today.
More than once.
Maybe there's a bill on the counter.
Or a number you keep adding up...
and it keeps coming out the same.
Those are real.
You can look at them tomorrow.
With a clear head and some coffee.
Tonight, nothing gets paid.
The bank is closed.
And so are you.
Worrying at midnight doesn't add a single dollar.
It just takes away sleep.
Your to-do list is on pause too.
All of it.
So let those thoughts sit down.
Somewhere outside this bed.
Out on the porch, maybe.
With the crickets.
They'll keep them company till morning.
Take a breath in...
And as you breathe out...
unclench your hands.
Look at those hands for a second.
In your mind.
They worked hard today.
They carried the groceries in from the car.
Maybe they held someone's hand.
That's something you have.
Two good hands.
Resting now.
I'll say a few words.
Repeat them quietly in your head.
Or just That's listen.
fine You too.
don't have to fully believe Let them.
them be true for Like tonight.
trying on a warm coat.
I have enough tonight.
I have enough tonight.
A warm bed.
A place to That's rest.
enough for right now.
Good things find me.
Good things find me.
Think of something good that found Something you.
you didn't plan.
A kind note left on your car.
A friend who called at the right time.
A parking spot right out front.
It's small, but it More counts.
of those are on You their way.
don't have to chase them tonight.
They know where you I live.
am grateful for what is here.
I am grateful for what is here.
Let your chest warm up with that.
Slowly, like a mug between your hands.
On a cold fall morning.
This bed.
And this breath, coming in on its own.
You didn't have to earn this breath.
It just keeps coming.
Every few seconds, all night long.
I have enough.
Good things find me.
I am grateful.
Let the words get shorter now.
You can stop repeating.
Just let them land.
Enough.
Here.
Grateful.
Full.
Breathing in...
And out...
Rest.
Warm.
Goodnight.
Enough.
