Big day tomorrow?
I can tell.
Your body is in bed...
but it's still on alert.
Let's change that.
Slowly.
Lie back.
Let the bed hold you.
All of you.
Not just parts.
The backs of your heels.
Your calves.
The whole length of your spine.
The bed doesn't care what's happening tomorrow.
It just holds whatever lies down on it.
Hear the rain?
It's far off.
Somewhere past the neighbor's roof.
For the next six minutes...
tomorrow doesn't need you.
Only tonight does.
Breathe in...
And let it out slow.
Notice what your mind is doing.
It's rehearsing.
Walking into the room.
Saying the first line.
Checking the time again.
Maybe it's an interview.
Or a long drive somewhere new.
Maybe it's a big day for someone else.
And you're the one showing up.
Whatever it is...
your mind has played it a dozen ways.
The good version.
The bad version.
And it keeps looking for one more.
Your mind is only trying to help.
It wants you ready.
So thank Really.
Say it quietly, if you like.
Like you'd thank a friend...
who stayed late to help you pack.
Thanks.
I've got it from here.
You've already done the prep.
The outfit is picked out.
Or it will be, and that's One fine.
more run-through won't help now.
Sleep The will.
words you need tomorrow...
are already in there.
They'll be easier to find after sleep.
Think of the last time you slept well.
How much easier the morning felt.
Even the coffee tasted better.
Your body does its best work...
while you're not watching.
Let's try two quiet sentences.
Say them in your head...
after me.
I have done enough.
I have done enough.
Rest is part of the plan.
Rest is part of the plan.
Maybe you don't believe it yet.
That's all right.
Let the words sit there anyway.
Now let's let the body catch up.
Start at the top of your head.
Your scalp softens.
Your forehead goes smooth.
There's nothing to frown about in the dark.
Your eyes sink back.
Heavy in their sockets.
Your jaw drops a little.
It's done practicing for today.
Your neck lets go into the pillow.
Your shoulders get heavy.
Heavier than they were at dinner.
Your arms sink into the sheet.
Down to the elbows.
Down to the wrists.
Your hands are heavy too.
Too heavy to reach for your phone.
Your chest rises...
and settles.
Your belly is soft.
Your back sinks into the mattress.
Your hips settle.
Your legs go loose and long.
Like sand settling in a jar.
And your feet...
just resting there.
With nowhere to walk tonight.
I have done enough.
Heavy all over now.
If the rehearsal starts again...
let it play quietly.
Far away, like the rain.
You don't have to stop it.
don't join in.
Let it run without you.
Rest is part of the plan.
Your alarm is set.
You checked it already.
You don't need to check again.
Breathing in...
And out...
The morning is a long way off.
Let it take its time.
The rain is still falling.
Somewhere far away.
Stay heavy.
Stay here.
Goodnight.
