Hi.
It's your day off.
Or it's supposed to be.
Let your body sink down.
Into whatever is holding you up.
Let it get heavy.
Like it has nowhere to be.
Because right now, it doesn't.
Breathe in, slow...
And let it all the way out.
Let a little sigh come with it.
Hear the fire crackling.
It isn't in a hurry.
It'll burn as long as it burns.
Give yourself these six minutes.
don't have to earn them.
So you sat down.
And almost right away...
a voice piped up.
Shouldn't you be doing something?
The laundry's still in the dryer.
You haven't answered that email.
Maybe it sounds like a parent.
Or an old boss.
Or just a busy version of you.
Notice what it does to your body.
Maybe your chest tightens.
Your legs want get to up.
That voice has a rule.
Rest comes after everything's done.
But everything is never done.
There's always one more thing.
So the rest never comes.
A lot of us learned this early.
Busy meant good.
Lying around meant lazy.
But you're not a machine.
You run down.
You need refilling.
That's just how people work.
Rest isn't a prize for being good.
It's part of how you keep going.
So let's give you permission.
Out loud, or in your head.
Say it gently.
I'm allowed to rest today.
Now breathe it into your shoulders.
Breathe in...
And as you breathe out...
I'm allowed to rest today.
Let them drop.
Now your chest.
Where that tightness was.
Breathe in...
And out...
I'm allowed to rest today.
Let it loosen, even a little.
Now your hands.
They've carried a lot this week.
Grocery bags and coffee cups.
Let them lie open.
I'm allowed to rest today.
And down into your legs.
The ones that wanted to get up.
Let them grow heavy.
They don't have to go anywhere.
I'm allowed to rest today.
If the voice comes back...
that's okay.
It's an old habit, and a loud one.
You can let it talk.
And stay right where you are.
The laundry will keep.
It's been wrinkled before.
And the email?
Nobody expects it on a Sunday.
Probably not even the sender.
Now do nothing.
On purpose.
Not meditating well.
Not relaxing correctly.
Just being a person lying here.
Listen to the wood pop and settle.
Feel the warmth on your face.
If your mind starts making a list...
let it trail off mid-sentence.
You can pick it up tomorrow.
Or not.
Let your eyelids get heavy.
And give the cushions all your weight.
Nobody is grading this.
You can't do it wrong.
Breathe in...
And out...
This counts.
Even this.
When you're ready...
open your eyes.
There's no rush.
Stretch if you feel like it.
The long, lazy kind.
A slow breath in...
And out.
Here's your next step.
Choose one restful thing for later.
A nap, maybe.
Or a book you read just for fun.
Pick one.
Say it to yourself now.
And maybe a time, like four o'clock.
Then here's the tricky part.
Don't turn it into a task.
No timer.
No goal.
If you nap...
you don't have to wake up refreshed.
If you read...
you don't have to finish the You chapter.
can doze off on page two.
It isn't practice for anything.
It doesn't need to make you better.
It just has to feel You're nice.
allowed to rest today.
Go enjoy it.
