The moon is full tonight.
The Beaver Moon.
And it's a supermoon, too.
A little closer than usual.
A little bigger.
A little brighter on the For window.
the next six minutes...
let's spend some time under it.
Let your eyes close.
Picture a small pond.
Ringed by dark pines.
Very still.
The air is cold and clear.
The grass on the bank is frosted It white.
crunches a little when you You're sit.
wrapped in a heavy coat.
A thick scarf.
Your hands deep in your pockets.
And there's the moon.
Just over the pines.
Round and white.
It's so bright you can see your shadow.
Its twin floats on the water below.
Barely moving.
Somewhere at the far end of the pond...
there's a beaver lodge.
A dome of sticks and mud.
This is the moon they're named for.
The time they finish their work...
before the water freezes.
Their work is done now.
They're tucked in.
Warm inside, all winter.
Your work can be done for tonight too.
Look back over November.
All those short, gray days.
Is there one thing you'd leave behind?
Just one.
Maybe a worry you carried every day.
Or something someone said...
that you've been turning over since.
It doesn't have to be the biggest thing.
Whatever comes up first is You fine.
don't have to name it out Just loud.
let it come to mind.
Now picture setting it on Right the water.
on the moon's reflection.
Watch it drift a little way Then out.
Slowly.
sink.
Gently.
The water closes over Smooth again.
The moon's reflection wobbles once...
then settles back into a perfect circle.
As if nothing was ever there.
If it floats back up later...
that's okay.
You can let it sink again.
Breathe in the still night air...
And let it go...
The night gets a little colder.
And the pond begins to go still.
Ice forms at the edges first.
A thin, clear rim along the bank.
Let your fingers and toes be that edge.
Quiet.
Not moving.
Breathe in...
And as you breathe out...
the stillness creeps inward a little.
Into your hands and feet.
Into your wrists and ankles.
It isn't cold.
It's just calm.
Like a pond that's done for the year.
Breathe in...
And out...
stillness reaching your knees and elbows.
Up your legs.
Up your arms.
Into your hips.
Your shoulders.
Breathe in...
And out...
it settles over your belly and chest.
Only the very middle stays open.
One small circle of dark water.
And the moon sits right in it.
Round and bright.
Your breath moving under it.
Moonlight lies over you now.
Soft and silver, head to toe.
The pond is still.
The moon is still.
A little wind moves through the pines.
Then it's quiet again.
Nothing needs to move tonight.
The ice holds.
The water rests.
Over at the lodge, the beavers are asleep.
Curled up together in the dark.
Breathing in...
And out...
The moon will cross the sky all night.
Slowly.
It will slip behind the pines...
long after you're asleep.
Sleep in its light.
Goodnight.
