There's a full moon tonight.
The Hunter's The Moon.
last big one of October.
Hunters used to head out under it.
The fields were already cut.
Easy to see by its light.
You don't have anywhere to go.
You just have a bed.
And a little time before sleep.
Picture your window.
The blinds partly open.
And there it is.
Coming up over the rooftops.
Big and orange at first.
As it climbs, it turns pale.
Then white.
Bright enough to throw shadows.
Let your eyes close.
You can still picture it there.
For the next six minutes...
let the moon do the work.
You just lie still.
Breathe in, slow...
And out...
softer than you think you need to.
A full moon is a good time...
to finish something.
Or to let it go.
October is almost over.
Think back over this month.
Is there one thing...
you've been carrying since it started?
A grudge, maybe.
A habit you're tired A of.
plan that didn't work out.
Or maybe a worry that kept coming back.
Every night this month.
Right about now.
Just Whatever one.
comes up You first.
don't have to say it out Just loud.
name it to yourself.
Now picture setting it on the windowsill.
Right there in the It moonlight.
doesn't have to vanish.
You just don't have to hold it The tonight.
moon can watch it for It's a while.
looked at plenty of things.
Nothing surprises it.
Let your hands open on the blanket.
Now the moonlight comes through the window.
Slow and silver.
Like cool milk being poured.
It reaches the bed first.
Then the top of Feel your head.
it on your hair.
Cool, and very light.
It moves down over your forehead.
Your forehead smooths out.
The little frown line lets go.
Over your eyelids.
They and get heavy still.
Down your cheeks.
Around your mouth.
Your jaw goes slack.
The light pours over your neck...
and pools in the hollows...
above your collarbones.
Now your shoulders.
Silver light across both of them.
They sink back into the mattress.
It runs down your arms.
Past the elbows.
Into your palms.
Your hands fill up with it.
Too full and heavy to lift.
Now your chest.
The light rests It there.
rises and falls with your breath.
Down over your belly.
Soft and round.
Over your hips.
And down your Past legs.
your knees, taking its time.
All the way to your Your feet.
toes are silver in the dark.
Now you're covered in it.
Head to toe.
One long pour of moonlight.
Everywhere it touched...
is soft now.
Just lie in Nothing the light.
else to do.
Past the edge of town...
the crickets are singing.
The corn stalks are dry and still.
The moon is high now.
Small and bright.
It doesn't need anything from you.
It just shines.
Across the street...
a kitchen light clicks off.
Then the next house over.
One by one...
the whole neighborhood goes dark.
Only the moon stays up.
Breathing in...
And out...
The thing on the windowsill can stay there.
The moon will keep watch.
All the way until morning.
Rest in the silver light.
Goodnight.
