It's Friday night.
And you're finally horizontal.
The week is over.
Whatever didn't happen can wait.
Take a second to get comfortable.
Scoot over.
Fix the pillow.
If your phone is still glowing...
let it go dark on the nightstand.
Or plug it in across the room.
Now feel the bed under you.
It's been there the whole time.
Doing its quiet job.
For the next six minutes...
let's see how much of you...
it can take.
Hear the rain on the roof?
Soft and uneven.
Tapping a little faster, then slower.
It's the kind of night...
where you'd cancel plans and not mind.
That's the only sound you need.
Let your eyes close...
whenever they're ready.
You carried a lot this Most week.
of it up here.
Across the tops of your shoulders.
Picture it like a backpack.
Stuffed too full.
Straps digging in.
Slip one strap off.
Now the other.
Let it slide down behind you.
Onto the floor.
It lands with a soft thump.
You won't need it until Monday.
Maybe not even then.
Your neck can let go too.
Let your head go Notice heavy.
how your shoulders feel Lower.
now.
Wider, somehow.
Take one slow breath in...
And let it fall out of you.
Now imagine someone kind...
unfolding a big, heavy blanket.
Warm from the dryer.
They lay it over your feet first.
Slowly.
Tucking it around your toes.
Your feet get warm.
And too heavy to bother moving.
Now it spreads up over your shins.
Your knees.
Pressing them gently down.
Your legs sink a little deeper.
Into the mattress.
The blanket covers your hips now.
Your thighs loose go underneath it.
Your lower back spreads out.
Into the sheet.
It's heavy in a good way.
Like a lap full of warm laundry.
Now it settles over your belly.
Your belly rises under it...
and sinks back down.
Each breath out...
you sink a bit more.
And every time you sink...
the blanket follows you down.
It reaches your chest.
Warm, steady weight.
No sharp edges anywhere.
Your ribs soften under it.
Your breath gets slower on its own.
They fold the top edge down...
right under your chin.
And smooth it flat.
Your arms are under there too.
Pinned softly to your sides.
You couldn't lift them if you tried.
And you don't want to try.
The weight spreads evenly now.
From your toes to your collarbones.
Heavy and warm.
The heaviness is doing the work now.
You don't have to.
It spreads into places...
you didn't know were still holding.
The backs of your knees.
The space behind your If eyes.
you thought about moving a notice finger...
how far away it feels.
Then let it stay.
The warmth pools in your hands.
Your fingers curl a little.
Rain on the roof.
Warm under the blanket.
Your face goes slack.
Your lips part.
Heavier...
and heavier.
Breathing in...
And out...
Too heavy to move.
Too warm to care.
The rain keeps tapping.
Nobody needs you to get up.
The house is dark around you.
The blanket is heavy on top.
Sink.
Goodnight.
